Feora Wearing Biggins reviews Supergirl the movie

The girl of steel, The red blue blurette, Supergirl. Yes I was gone for two months but I'm back with a review of Supergirl: the movie. As you my already know I love the Superman movies, comics and books. So in theory I should love this movie and I almost do. It was funny purely due to how serious the film was meant to be. Superman fought Lex Luthor, General Zod and Nuclear man, Supergirl fought a wicked witch using kryptonian technology to boost her magical abilities. The whole plot is faintly ridiculous, but what I enjoyed most was the acting which was surprisingly good. Helen Slater portrayal of Supergirl was perfect, the naivety and the strongness of her character when angry. Her character was perfect but her origin was not true to the comics at all.

This film had a very similar score to Superman. It was exciting and uplifting. It was a fun film and it wasn't boring as one may expect it to be. The special effects were better than in Superman 4, Superman 4 is by far one of the worst films ever made and one of my favorites. This film is worth watching by all means but I've seen better films. 2/5

Fedora wearing Biggins reviews Dan in real life

There's rightness in our wrongness. Now you've all seen Steve Carell in films like Anchorman, Bruce almighty and get smart and we know that he is a fairly hilarious guy. Dan in real life was really very funny but it also ha a very realistic feel to it, Dan was just an average guy in a some what average situation. This film could easily happen in real life, all the characters and events in the film were very easy to relate to. This means that you can really connect and relate to Dan's story.

My problem with this film was how awkward some moments were and I don't mean the writing or the acting but how awkward some of the situations were. I hate awkward moments in real life and when I see it in a film I tend to pause it to prepare myself for the awkwardness but maybe thats just me. The supporting cast was also really very convincing and showed great realism in their portrayals. I find the movies poster best describes this film "Its confusing, Its awkward, Its family." Although I would add to that very funny and a great film.

This film was really rather good and it was good to see that Steve Carell can pull of a serious role as well as his usually silly comedy. But what was most surprising for me about this film was just how much of a tear jerker it was. I was expecting a mediocre family comedy with a predictable and boring story line. I was pleasantly surprised by th emotional depth of the film. It had me a man who doesn't cry pretty chocked up towards the end. I can guarantee that this film will beat your expectations, Impress you and relate to you and your life. All in all a great film 4/5

Fedora wearing Biggins reviews The Time travlers wife

If you wait around long enough you'll see me disappear. let me start by saying I was forced to read this for my English lit class an would have otherwise never even thought of reading it. Now I've always loved the idea of an unwilling time traveler disappearing into the past or future and having to adapt to the situation at hand. This book provided me with the "chrono-displaced" traveler I had wanted however it also brought his wife. Now I am aware the book was called The time travelers wife and I knew before reading it that it was a romance. I had seen trailers for the film and so I knew the general jist but was not excited in any way about reading it.

As I have already said I loved the concept and as I read I really enjoyed the way the book was set out. It was not set out in your typical linear way, it jumped backwards and forwards through time sometimes with Henry sometimes to simply shed some light on what was happening by going back to hear a anecdote from Clare. The book switches between Henry and Clare as the narrator but is always in first person, occasionally you get the same extract twice from their respective views. The book in theory was very good (although I did want the first time Henry met Clare in the past.) My problem is with Clare as a character as i found her boring and repetitive as everything you need to know about her is in th prologue at the beginning of the book.

The book is riddled with subtle symbolism and Henry's character development is really quite impressive as well as interesting to read. The book at the start was fun and carefree but when it reached the half way mark it quickly became dark and really rather depressing which while made the book better was a bit of a downer im not really sure it even had a happy ending although it definitely was meant to have one. The ending was the most depressing thing I have ever seen, read or watched. purely because of the books layout and the whole concept of an unwilling time travler this book manages to get a 2 out of 5.

Fedora Wearing Biggins reviews Watchmen

Who watches the Watchmen? For the supposed "greatest superhero movie of all time" I was rather disappointed. The fights were kick ass and paid great attention to the little blocks and punches which most superhero films replace with punches through walls and breathtaking super powers. While I thought the fight scenes were great, they were also short and far too spread out. The plot while interesting was in no way original and took longer than necessary to explain.

The film featured many weird heroes two of which being Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) and Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson) who if combined would make an exact replica of Batman. Nite owl had the Batman type suit, gadgets and such and Rorschach had Batman's voice and detective skills. The two characters were interesting although Nite Owl frequently got on my nerves with his goody two shoes act but with out the backbone to back it up. Rorschach's gruff demeanor and especially his mask made him all that more interesting, the way he spoke made every thing he said seem ten times more important and vital. I also liked the Silk specter (Carla Gugino) as well as her predecessor the silk specter 2 (Malin Akerman) was an interesting comparison on the previous and current teams, it showed how the old team (the minutemen) had slowly been cut down in there prime. This was later shown with the current watchmen. I disliked Ozymandias (Matthew Goode) as I felt he was incredibly stuck up and close minded. Now we get to DR. Manhattan (the big blue naked guy played by Billy Crudup) I enjoyed his story line and watching him become slowly more and more detached from his humanity. The Comedian (Jeffery Dean Morgan) was one of those characters that you laugh at even though he is clearly completely insane and twisted.

The film was long, had three sex scenes starring Silk Specter 2, one attempted rape of the original Silk Specter, about eight decent fight scenes and a gazillion flash backs. It had an incredibly fluid plot and its flash backs which in some films are awkward and badly executed was preformed expertly and were my favorite parts of the film (not including the opening credits.) Also I enjoyed the soundtrack from the film which had some of my favorite songs in it such as "the times they are a' changing" and "hallelujah." The music fitted the story and the mood of the film perfectly. This film was not the greatest superhero movie of all time while I did like the idea of a alternate Earth where the U.S.A won the Vietnam war and Nixon got elected for a third term however films such as The Dark Knight and Ironman are closer to being the greatest superhero films of all time. Not because they are my favorites(I prefer Superman films and Blade) but the two that are truest to the comics. Watchmen was a good film but it wasn't perfect I give it a 3 out of 5 because it occasionally got a bit boring due to lack of action.

Fedora wearing Biggins review's Zombieland

Rule 32: enjoy the little things. Zombie land was fun, violent and freaking hilarious. Starring woody Harrelson as the kick-ass zombie slaying joker, who is funny all the way through the film but towards the end he does gain some emotional depth and his twinke addiction will have you in hysterics. Jesse Isenberg plays the average shy teenager with no social life to speak of until the zombie apocalypse that is. With his rather predictable love interest being played by the talented not to mention gorgeous Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin comes along for the ride too.

I love zombie movies theres something very compelling about the idea of zombies taking over the world and man kind having to fight to win the earth back. This film was a perfect zombie comedy. It centers around the four main cast trying to get to a theme park in LA and while that seems like a crazy idea (which it is) the journey to get there is to put it lightly epic! It was a somewhat predictable film it was a interesting film with an amazing opening title sequence. The music suited the theme of the film just fine but it was nothing that noticeable.

The film also has a surprise non zombie guest pop up half way through ( i won't ruin it for you though don't worry) providing hilarious results. The film is also filled with funny flash-backs my favorite being Columbus's (Jesse Isenberg) one. While this film isn't quite up to the standards of Shaun of the dead it is a great thrill ride comedy with many cool zombie killing methods that just make you laugh purely because they are so unexpected. A must see film 4/5.

Nut up or shut up.

Fedora Wearing Biggins reviews Sorority row

Sorority row is proud to be sponsored by facebook. When I saw this film advertised I assumed that it was just your run of the mill slasher film but I was pleasantly surprised. This film starred a variety of hot college girls, a creepy psychiatrist and a tire iron wielding psychopath. Sorority row centers around a group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of their house-sister after a prank gone wrong, only to be stalked by a serial killer who favors a Tire iron as his weapon of choice.

This film while based on a film made in the 80's it did a good job of breaking away from the cliché and pitfalls of your average horror or slasher film. The acting was superb and the story was mystifying enough to keep you wanting more. I don't scare easy but some of the murders were so gory or in the case of the first kill so unexpected that my jaw hit the floor and stayed there for five minutes. Not only was this film gory and filled with hot chicks but I couldn't help but laugh like a hyena all the way through. The film its self wasn't supposed to be funny I don't think but some of the deaths were so fitting you couldn't help but laugh, some of the killers dialog was quite funny if you can laugh at a sorority girl with a tire iron in her head.

My only problem with this film was how often facebook was mentioned as it wasn't necessary at all and to be honest I prefer Twitter. Besides that though I was surprised by how good the film was and I do not normally like this kind of film but it is worth watching if you like slasher films, comedy of hot half naked party girls. A word of warning though you may develop a very rational fear of tire irons. A solid 3.5 out of 5 for Sorority row.

Fedora Wearing Biggins reviews District 9

I was really looking forward to this film but to be honest I was a bit disappointed by it. I love the idea of District 9 the premise was sound, the movie was very sad and it definitely had an underlying theme of hope that I really enjoyed but the action lacked excitement.

This film was adapted from "Alive in Joburg", a 2005 short film written and directed by Neil Blomkamp. The film starred Sharlto Copley as Wikus Van De Merwe, a man whos life is ruined when he starts to become a "Prawn" (the nickname for the aliens.) Wikus Van De Merwe was not the type of character I was expecting but it did give the film a more realistic feel to it, it was easy to relate to Wikus because he was just your average guy who becomes the hero even if he becomes the hero unwillingly (I've always loved the hero's who don't want to be hero's.) Aside from the human side of the story, you also see it from the "Prawns" perspective and how at the end of the day they just want to go home. This film also did a good job of humanizing the aliens, to show us that they were just like us really they had emotions and children. But the best thing this film did in my opinion was make me side against the humans, this is the first film I've seen where I wanted the humans to lose. The way the "Prawns" were treated was really quite bad for example they burnt down house's where the "prawns" had laid eggs effectively killing off thirty baby "Prawns." At the end of the day if a film can make you side against your own race you know its doing a good job.

I really enjoyed this film but to be honest I won't watch it again because once you know what happened it loses all its suspense and it becomes boring. But it is a brilliant film and well worth watching, I give it a 4/5 purely because the action let me down a bit.

Fedora wearing Biggins reviews Crank 2

He was dead but he got better. If you saw the first "Crank" you know it ended with Chev Chelios falling out of a helicopter after running around keeping poison from killing him using adrenaline. This film was even sillier and much more ridiculous than the original, there was less of a plot and more action. Now some would dislike this amount of pointless violence and explosions however it was obviously necessary as this time his heart was taken and replaced with a electric heart.

While some scenes such as the five minute sex scene were a tad unnecessary even if enjoyable. The film on the whole was rather enjoyable and at times hilarious. The music was very modern at suited the movie very well as it was incredibly fast paced. The film at parts had throw backs to the original movie as well as cut offs to funny quick animated shorts and flashbacks.

However I may be slightly bias as Jason Statham is my favorite actor of all time. I loved Transporter, adored Death race and was amazed by Snatch (honorable mentions include the bank job, transporter 2 and 3, war and cellular.) In my opinion Jason Statham is the ultimate action hero, he is my Chuck Norris.

So in conclusion if you enjoy fast paced action, car chases, half naked women, crude comedy or Jason Statham taking down fifteen cops at the same time you need to see this film I give it a 5/5 top score.

Fedora wearing Biggins Reviews The Ugly Truth AND The Proposal

Rom coms galore. Ok so I was recently on a seven hour ferry trip to France fortunately it had a inboard cinema so I basically saw every film out at the moment. That is why I paid good money or films I wouldn't normally watch but I have to say It wasn't all that bad.

Lets start with The Ugly Truth, starring Katherine Heigl as the romantically challenged morning show producer and Gerald Butler as the anti commitment type of guy and directed by Robert Luketic. This film was painfully predictable, It followed the same simple pattern as every other romantic comedy I've seen however Gerald Butler's performance completely turned the film around for me. His line delivery was just excellent his line delivery even rivaled Matthew perry (my favorite actor.) Katherine Heigl's performance was also very good but it was somewhat less noticeable because her lines were less comedic although she was fairly funny at times. A lot of the Ugly Truth segments were actually quite smart and made a lot of sense but if your a guy its the only reason to see the film. The film was pretty straightforward although the end seemed to happen to fast and it felt Incomplete but maybe thats just me.

All in all it was a good rom com but I wouldn't watch it again as It wasn't really my kind of film but If your fond of romantic comedy's then you should see It but unless your a chick your not going to be Impressed by It.

The Proposal put a new twist on the classic pattern that most romantic comedies follow. It starred Ryan Reynolds who is an incredible actor as well as Sandra bullock who is a terrific actress, the plot was good as was the script but despite some funny moments I was surprisingly bored by the film. Sandra Bullock's performance was top notch and she had some very funny lines, Reynold's performance was good but he needed better lines the writers should have trusted him with some better lines. The film's plot really wasn't as funny as the trailer made it out to be as all the films best bits were in the trailer. Even though the proposal had a better cast and a better story I preferred the ugly truth because it was simply the better film even though the proposal should of been the better film. There really is no reason to see this unless your stuck on a boat for seven hours because the proposal was extremely predictable, very rarely funny and the supporting cast was boring and to be honest unnecessary.

So in conclusion see the ugly truth and watch the trailer for the proposal.

Superman and Batman issue #62 reviewed

This issue was entitled "Sidekicked" and featured Supergirl and Robin instead of Superman and Batman. The lack of Superman and Batman did not bother me in this comic because it showed so well the comparison of Superman's idealist views and Batman's dark realism.they show this key difference between the two heroes through their sidekicks. In the second panel Supergirl says "this city's is so not Metropolis." Metropolis is the perfect city compared to Gotham's Criminal filled streets. Their differences are even shown in their villains in this comic, you can see that Supergirl is shocked at the twisted-ness of the arkaham inmates. Superman's villains all want something logical world domination, revenge, money etc where as the majority of Batman's villains to quote the dark knight "just want to see the world burn."

These differences are what make Superman and Batman such an interesting team and the same applies to their sidekicks. I really enjoyed this comic despite the fact that I've never really enjoyed the characters of Supergirl and Robin, it was however a rather interesting look into their characters and I have to say I have a new found respect for the sidekicks. It was good to see the sidekicks take out a lot of Batman's rouge gallery.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince reviewed

It may be the sixth in the series but its the best film yet. This film didn't star Clint Eastwood, there were no funky china men and the children did not speak in unison but it was bloody good fun. what really impressed me about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was the films ability to combine a extremely dark presence at times with some of the funniest moments ever written, the only other time I've seen this done successfully was in The Dark Knight.

The film featured brilliant performances (as always) from Daniel Radcliff, Rupert Grint and the rather gorgeous Emma Watson. The film showed how Voldemort rose to be the greatest dark wizard of all time, the plan to destroy Voldermort, Dumbledore's death and the blooming relationships between Harry and Ginny as well as Ron and Hermione. The pure density of this story caused this film to be the longest Harry Potter film yet and while some may moan at the idea of sitting in the cinema for 150 minutes however I was delighted when I heard how long it would be. The reason I was delighted that Harry potter and the Half Blood prince was 150 minutes long because it means they got to keep more of the book's detail in the film which is good. To prove this I give you:

exhibit A: Harry Potter and the goblet of fire, a great book but a terrible film due to its lack of detail.

Exhibit B: Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix, a great book but a terrible film due to its lack of detail.

You get my point but due to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince's extended length it was a rather enjoyable film and I did not spend the entire film wondering why they took such a part out of the film. I did however spend half of the film laughing until it became to hard to breath and the other half admiring the special effects. While the film had its flaws they weren't really that noticeable I was rather annoyed when Luna Lovegood found Harry on the train instead of Tonks but other than that there wasn't anything major missing.

I was rather disappointed with the score as I didn't notice it at all maybe the film was too good or perhaps Miz Watson distracted me but it wasn't noticeable all the time. A good film score needs to enhance the film by adding effect to the picture on screen (it needs to be noticeable and dramatic but not distract from the film) and Nicholas Hopper simply did not deliver this which is a shame because the Harry Potter score is normally quite good not epic (like anything by John Williams) but still makes me enjoy the film more.

But other than the lack of a good score I throughly enjoyed this film and maintain that it was the best Harry Potter film out so far. I can't wait for both parts of Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows which really needs to be the best two Harry Potter films ever made. And know I have to end this blog as I am really getting tired of typing "Harry Potter and the....." but I will leave you with the promise of Jackass the movie 2 being reviewed here soon.

Torchwood: Children of Earth reviewed

We are coming! Torchwood has never been as good as Doctor Who but last week they started a five episode series that did something that Doctor Who never has. Doctor Who is a family friendly TV series and Torchwood is a more down to earth show that shows the grit and horror that Doctor Who can't, for once Torchwood found the perfect story for them (although have way through I couldn't help but wonder where the Doctor was.) The Children of Earth was a dramatic but brilliant five episode storyline, when I started watching I only watched because I had nothing better to watch but by episode three I was hooked, nine o' clock on the dot I was sat in front of the tv with a coke in one hand and popcorn in the other.

I live 45 miles from where the Torchwood hub is supposed to be, I have stood where they found Jacks hand after the explosion but that didn't make it seem any less real. I was completely astounded by how creepy the children speaking simultaneously all over the world were but by the last episode that wasn't the big thing, you weren't thinking about the aliens, you were chocked up about Ianto, you were freaking out about the children being taken away and impressed by the bravery shown by those characters you thought were just there for comic relief. I began to hate the government for what they were doing if they had just let Torchwood/U.N.I.T do their jobs I'm sure they could have fond out what Jack found out.

Admittedly The 456 weren't the biggest or scariest aliens but you know they are a powerful civilization capable of destroying planets but then you find out that they just want the children because they use them as drugs you start to think of them as lowlife gangsters who just need their next fix. The series just got more and more serious until it got to a point where John Frobisher murdered his wife and children and shot himself so that they wouldn't see the bad that was going to happen. The end was sad to say the least with Jack sacrificing his grandson but thankfully the prime minster didn't get away with it thanks to Bridget Spears who completely redeemed herself in my eyes. I even liked Johnson (the female special forces gal) at the end if they bring Torchwood back I think she would make a great addition to the team .

But now the big question will Torchwood be back ? With Ianto dead, Gwen pregnant and Jack of world who knows if it will be back. I hope so and I know how they could do it, if they tie it in with Doctor Who some how they could reunite Torchwood, some new recruits may be needed ( I suggest Johnson and Lois Habiba.) The show was under preforming a lot recently but after the Children of Earth storyline ( to which have the nation tuned in to) who knows maybe the BBC will bring it back. If you missed it you can still watch it on iplayer, trust me it will be five hours well sent.

The Forbidden Kingdom reviewed

There were funky china men from funky China town! The Forbidden Kingdom was one of the best films I've seen recently, it combines non-stop action, comedy and a star studded cast. The film starred martial arts legends Jackie Chan and Jet Li as well as lesser known actors Michael Argarano and the rather gorgeous Yifei Liu, Chan and Li alone make this film worth watching. David Buckley also did a tremendous job with the music, he masterfully creates an iconic and exciting piece of music but also adds a hint of traditional Chinese melody's with great effect.

The film starts when Jason (Michael Argarano) finds the legendary Monkey king staff in the back of a Chinese pawn shop, the staff sends him back through time to ancient China. He then meets Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) who saves him and takes him as his student in martial arts, they are later helped by Sparrow (Yifei Liu) who also joins them on their quest to deliver the staff back to the Monkey King (Jet-Li) during their quest they meet the Silent Monk (Jet-Li) who also joins them in their attempt to deliver the staff and free the stone encased monkey king but the jade warlord stands in their way. This leads to some kung fu fighting, those cats were fast as lighting, In fact it was a little bit frightening but they fought with expert timing.

All in all this was a superb, action packed, kung-fu filled thrill ride with an amazing cast and a terrific story. It is impossible to watch this film without daydreaming about being in ancient China or at least daydream about Yifei Liu. I'll end this post with a quotation from the film He who speaks, does not Know; He who Knows, does not speak.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly reviewed

Six may be the perfect number but the third was definitely the best! This film was perfect it had all the things that made the first two good and so much more. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly saw the return of Clint Eastwood as the Man with no name (The Good), the return of Lee Van Cleef this time as Angel Eyes (The Bad) and Eli Wallach as Tuco ( The Ugly.) While some may say the film was slow to start and that it went on for too long it doesn't take away from the pure excellence of the movie. The film features the three men going after 200,000 dollars but they get caught up several times in the civil war on the way to the money the film is filled to the brim with gunfights and kick ass-ery.

Ennio Morricone proved his genius once again with the world renowned the Good, The Bad and The Ugly theme which is a very iconic piece and is one of my favorite non john Williams pieces. This film had a terrific cast, an amazing director and a incredible composer. It is one of the first films you think of when some one mentions western films and I can see why this is truly one of the best western films ever and by far the best film to come out of the 60's.

This is such a good movie that it worries me that it took me this long to watch it, if you haven't seen it go watch it! I can guarantee if you like westerns or even action movies in general you will love this movie. This is a must watch movie with a poncho wearing six shooter wielding horseback riding cowboy.

For a few dollars more reviewed

The Man With No Name is back but not quite as good as the last time! I still think Clint Eastwood is the ultimate cowboy, I still think that his poncho is awesome however I still think A fistful of dollars is the greatest movie I have ever seen. For a few dollars more was a superb film, It had a great cast, a great story and a great soundtrack, it was almost perfect. My only complaint is that Eastwood's character seemed unimportant to the story, he was cool and made the film more interesting but the story seemed to focus too much on Colonel Douglas Mortimer (played by Lee Van Cleef.)

Colonel Douglas Mortimer is a rival bounty to The Man With No Name and meet when they go after the same man (El Indio) and after some hat shooting they team up and go after El Indio together. The team up has many humorous moments as well as some purely kick ass moments. The addition of the Colonel Douglas Mortimer character did make for an interesting team-up however I felt it diluted Eastwood's character. The gunfights were spectacular not cinematic but exciting, again you could tell that the film was not up to modern standards and the audio was slightly behind the video but as I've said before I love that style of film making.

This film is not as good as For a fistful of dollars but it's still one of the greatest western films of all time and is worth watching but watch For a fistful of dollars first. You get to see some more characterization of The Man With No Name, you see a lot more of his human side as in the first film he seems very uncaring and cold (until the end.) Guess the only thing left to do is go and see how it holds up against The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

A Fistful of Dollars reviewed

The Rojo brothers on one side, the Baxters on the other and Clint Eastwood right in the middle. Clint Eastwood has so much hype about him being the ultimate cowboy and so on but I had only seen one film with him in (Gran Turino) and he wasn't a cowboy in it, so I had no frame of reference. Then I saw a fistful of dollars and now I know, he is the greatest cowboy of all time. In the first five minutes I was hooked and that was before anything had really happened so the next ninety one minutes blew my mind.

The film starts of Eastwood riding in to a suffering town with two gangs fighting over leadership ( the Rojo and the Baxters) both gangs try to hire the Eastwood, he takes both jobs and sets about tricking them into fighting each other while he goes about taking their money. Of course by the end Eastwood proves himself to be a hero but at the start he seems very indifferent towards the suffering and frightened villagers but its all art of his "heroes journey." The film's colors weren't up to modern standards and the sound was slightly ahead of peoples mouths moving but in my opinion this simply adds to the effect of the movie. I have also recently watched the modern westerns 3:10 to Yuma and Appaloosa and while they were good films they were missing the grittiness of the old westerns, which add so much to these classic Eastwood films. Ennio Moricone (who wrote the score) did an outstanding job, his music emphasized the events as well as enhanced them.

This film was so absorbing that I found it almost impossible to look away, pause it or think of anything else for several hours afterwards. A fistful of dollars had it all comedy, action, drama, suspense it was even sad at times but it managed to pull off everything with class (unlike some more modern films that just throw them in where ever.) This was by far the greatest western film I have ever seen and is high on the list of my favorite films of all time. So if you haven't seen this film watch it, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. It is the ultimate western but now I'm going to go watch For a few dollars more so I may change my mind.

The Rocker reviewed

I'm not bitter but I've seen better films. You've seen School of Rock, of course you have, who hasn't? If you enjoyed that film you will enjoy The Rocker. This film is a fun heart warming story (not unlike school of rock) however while i enjoyed this film it is not one I would watch more than a few times. The Rocker really is your average underdog film it may as well have followed a template, its simply a guy who gets kicked out of a band joins a new band and makes it big. It stars Rainn Wilson, Teddy Geiger, Josh Gad(who i like cause he's wearing a fedora in the picture to the right) and the oh-so-good-looking Emma stone.

I will not buy this film on DVD however I have recently purchased the soundtrack. This film is not better than school of rock, yes it is a bit of a rip-off and Rainn Wilson is no where near as funny as Jack Black but The Rocker has better sounding music. I like Jack Black as a musician ( Tenacious D being one of my Favorite bands) but he was out matched by Teddy Geiger. Teddy Geiger is an outstanding musician and "I'm not bitter" is a masterpiece. Normally I'm not too bothered withe the music of a film but this film would not have been even half as good without the music. The acting unfortunately was not so good Rainn Wilson failed to truly pull off the loser rocker stuck in the 80's and Teddy Geiger is a much better musician than actor. The strongest actor (or actress if you want to be technical) in this movie was the gorgeous Emma Stone, who was the only actor who pulled off a believable performance.

This film was very predictable and simple but it is worth watching at least once. The rocker is a fun movie, it doesn't have much effect on your life and it won't make you cry from laughing. It is however worth watching, the rocker is just a popcorn movie. I guarantee it will be years before you see a film as mediocre as The Rocker.

NB

I know this film came out ages ago but I get films from Lovefilm (the British version of Netflix) and when I get a film I will review it . Tomorrow's film Role models come back tomorrow for that review.

Superman and Batman issue #61

The second and last "mash-up" installment was once again filled with cheesy characters, although I rather liked Jimmy Two-Face (sounds like a 50's gangster.) Not all the super villain names were as cool as Jimmy Two-Face, Brainycat and Penguello for example however (as I pointed out when I talked about issue 60) while cheesy combining villains makes them more deadly. Combining the physical prowess of Catwoman with the intellect of Braniac makes her almost unstoppable however we never got to see much of a fight because the villains beat the heroes so quickly. We did however get an explanation of why they are all mashed up. It was a dream. Now I can hear all you people out there moaning at the cliché of they can just wake up and it was just a dream but I think the writers pulled it off. I also rather liked the how they ended it by pulling the only magic users of the Titans and the JLA (Raven and Zatana ) out of the dream so they could stop Doctor Destiny. To be honest I have always found the Superman and Batman title to be more of a fun comic and as such I have always enjoyed the reality warping kind of thing (my favorite series being when villains from the 31st century raised Superman and Batman to be rulers of earth.) This two part series is a great example of the fun reality warp kind of thing and everyone who has read the comic knows at times you laughed at the cheese and at others admired the pure genius of the cheese. Yes it was cheesy but you know you loved it!

Superman: World of New Krypton #4 reviewed

I'm a bit behind In the World of New Krypton) title as i have yet to pick up the first issue or the third for that matter however i do have two and obviously four. I am officially blown away by this title. I love the idea of Superman being just a military man and not a Superhero, I love watching his determination not to kill a living creature even when ordered to do so but all of this was trivial compared to the Green lanterns showing up on New Krypton. You can see from the beginning that Hal Jordan disapproves of New Krypton and even more so of General Zod but this gets worse throughout the book until it gets to a point where its obvious he really doesn't like New Krypton. When Hal says "nice home you've got here, Kal." you can see that he is almost disgusted with General Zod and with New Kryptons lack of co-operation with the Green lantern Corps. At the end of issue four Superman gets arrested for treason, now its my hope that he will escape and hide on Earth as Clark Kent but I'm not sure because as I said i am a bit behind in the Various Superman titles. Overall I'm loving the New Krypton title and yes I do miss the cape and the Clark Kent persona but Hopefully we will see all that again soon as I do not think I would like New Krypton to go on forever as I would miss the Red and Blue.

Superman issue #688 reviewed

Now let me make one thing clear "Superman" is my favorite superhero but the problem with the Superman title at the moment is it is lacking in superman. Thats an understatement Superman is simply not in the Superman title at the moment. This dear readers infuriates me, now i can see the appeal of the Mon-el and The guardian. I understand the that the fact that Mon-el is dying and that adds to his character, I even kind of like The guardian however Mon-el is not Superman. IF this was the Mon-el comic I would thoroughly enjoy it but it is not. I pay two pounds every fortnight for a Superman comic not for a Mon-el comic. Aside from the fat that superman is not in the Superman title, I'm actually quite enjoying this story. The fact that Mon-el is dying adds greatly to his character as does his loyalty towards Superman. I also rather like the Mon-el/guardian friendship (Its rather similar to the Batman/Superman friendship.) The Science police are rather uninteresting to me, maybe its my lack of knowledge about them, maybe there just uninteresting but to be honest i don't see what they offer the story. I maintain however that while the story is good the need to give Mon-el his own title and bring Superman back into play!

Superman and Batman issue 60#

Every month I am going to try and write a quick review of the latest "superman and batman" comic. Issue 60# was entitled "Mash-up part 1" and the basic plot is for some reason every member of the JLA has somehow been combined with a member of the Teen Titans (apart from Batman an superman.) Admittedly it is a bit cheesy what with combinations like nightwing and green lantern. However some combinations while still some what cheesy actually make very powerful villains for example when Doomsday (the destroyer of superman) is combined with Deathstroke (a tactical genius and assassin) to make Doomstroke you have the raw strength of Doomsday mixed with skill of Deathstroke. I'm not going to ruin the ending or you but the combination of villains on the last page will either make you cringe from cheesiness or scream in anticipation of the next issue. Like i said this is only going to be a short review due to lack of material. So this is all till next month.

Fedora wearing Biggins reviews All the way

Andy Behrens has not only caused my sun burnt arms, legs and toes but also two weeks of waiting by the door for the postman. About a month ago I saw Sex Drive a truly spectacular and hilarious film, then I found out it was based on a book. Obviously I just had to buy the book however this book can not be found in the UK let alone in Swansea (famous for having the most teen pregnancies in Britain. Impressed?) Fortunately you can buy anything on the internet and I found a copy for £1.84 ( with a £4.96 postage charge, I hate amazon.) The only problem was the only one I could find was in Canada, which is approximately 3600 miles from Swansea. Now I understand that Canada's far away but i could have walked to Canada and back to Swansea quicker than the book took to fly here. I had too wait two weeks!

The book did eventually get here and it was well worth the wait. The 216 page book was read in three hours. Admittedly this book is a bit of a romantic comedy which is not really my normal book choice (im more of a Stephen King/David Gemell kind of guy) but this has just become one of my favorite books of all time. The story is about three friends on a road trip across 1,870 miles because a girl promised sex to Ian if he came and saw here before she left for Spain. Now I know this book sounds like another one of those oh-so-similar-teen-comedies but its really a lot more interesting and funny than the normal teen comedy. The funniest most intriguing aspect of this book is the various characters you have the main characters Ian (the geek who has never had a girlfriend), Lance (the guy who gets all the girls) and Felicia (the moral compass of the group) the interaction of the three friends had my sides hurting from laughing. The real comedy is provided by the outside characters such as the hillbilly who catches Lance with his girlfriend and the policeman who pulls them over for speeding . This book is a must buy if you need a good laugh, I have honestly never laughed so hard while reading. In fact I enjoyed this book that I have now read it four times and have only had it or three days. In fact I would be reading it now but if I sit in the sun my skin hurts, so go buy the book but spend four hours on the beach reading it or for that matter your garden, my garden or the park because you will end up with severely burnt arms, legs and toes. By the way the book is called "All The Way" and was written by the skilled Andy Behrens (who is responsible for my sun burnt flesh.)
